Hello! My name is Emily and I have been teaching for 5 years online and in the classroom. I have hosted several art workshops and have worked with children for over eight years. I am an experienced English Language tutor, TESOL certified, and have taught students of all ages and levels. I have become confident in experimenting and trying different teaching methods and techniques. I feel strongly that my personal qualities have aided me in becoming an effective teacher. This is a story about one of the most exhilarating experiences in my teacher career. It is actually how my teacher career began. I had been interested in working with children for many years. During my early twenties I hosted several art workshops for children and started by own babysitting business, “Jolly Tots”. With the stroke of luck I got a job at a daycare right around the corner from where I lived. I was informed that I would be assigned to the “bunny class”. The bunny class was the youngest and biggest class, twenty-two 2-year old’s to be exact. January arrived and I welcomed 22 toddlers into my classroom. For all the toddlers it was their first time in a school environment. They naturally had no preconceived notion of a “classroom”. On top of crying toddlers, I also had to cope with teary and anxious parents. Luckily, I had an assistant that could help with the at snack and lunch time, as well help with potty training. In a matter of days, I had to learn classroom management strategies, conflict resolutions skills, new discipline techniques, lesson activity preparations, school routines and supervising on a much larger scale. On top of all this, I had to teach and communicate in my second language. It wasn’t always easy but I soon flourished. My favourite part of the day was in the morning when the parents would drop their “bunnies” off at school gates. Seeing the joy on a child’s face as they run towards me was one of the best feelings I had ever experienced.

"토끼 반"에 배정될 것이라는 통보를 받았습니다. 토끼 반은 가장 어리고 큰 반, 정확히는 2살 22명의 반이었습니다. 1월이 되었고 저는 22명의 유아를 제 교실로 맞이했습니다. 모든 유아에게는 학교 환경에서 처음이었습니다. 그들은 당연히 "교실"에 대한 선입견이 없었습니다. 울고 있는 유아에 더해 눈물을 흘리며 불안해하는 부모를 감당해야 했습니다. 운 좋게도 간식 시간과 점심 시간, 배변 훈련을 도와 줄 수 있는 조수가 있었습니다. 며칠 만에 저는 교실 관리 전략, 갈등 해결 기술, 새로운 훈육 기법, 수업 활동 준비, 학교 일과 및 훨씬 더 큰 규모의 감독을 배워야 했습니다. 무엇보다도 제2외국어로 가르치고 의사소통을 해야 했습니다. 항상 쉽지는 않았지만 곧 번성했습니다. 하루 중 내가 가장 좋아하는 시간은 아침에 부모님이 학교 정문에 "토끼"를 내려주는 시간이었습니다. 아이들이 저를 향해 달려오는 기쁨의 얼굴을 보는 것은 제가 경험한 최고의 감정 중 하나였습니다.
