Hello! My name is Nell Thomas, and I have been teaching English for the past three years. I have experience teaching both primary-aged students and conversation classes with adults. I understand the importance of creating a positive and supportive learning environment where students feel comfortable expressing themselves. I believe that communication is the most rewarding part of language learning, so I focus first on conversational fluency and expanding my students’ vocabulary.
My teaching style is characterised by patience, encouragement and a strong focus on individual student progress. I believe in adapting my lessons to meet the unique needs and goals of each student, ensuring they receive personalised attention and guidance. British English can provide a wide range of opportunities from job prospects to access to some of the best universities in the world. In my experience, language learners can progress faster when learning British English as the pronunciation of each word is more distinct. British accents can have a charming song-like quality which really sets them apart from American accents. I also think the UK produces amazing music, films, TV shows and writers so there is lots of great material to practise with!

One of my fondest experiences in the last few years has been building a friendship with my roommate. When we first lived together, there was a big language barrier as she spoke no English and I spoke no Spanish, so we communicated only through smiles and hand gestures. Over the past year, she has studied English and I have studied Spanish. Our conversations gradually grew as we learned more and more vocabulary, and eventually, we became close friends. This experience demonstrates how important and rewarding it is to learn languages as it allows us to connect with and learn from people of different cultures.
지난 몇 년 동안 제가 가장 좋아했던 경험 중 하나는 룸메이트와 우정을 쌓은 것입니다. 우리가 처음 함께 살았을 때 그녀는 영어를 할 줄 모르고 저는 스페인어를 할 줄 몰라서 언어 장벽이 컸기 때문에 미소와 손짓으로만 소통했습니다. 작년에 그녀는 영어를 공부했고 저는 스페인어를 공부했습니다. 점점 더 많은 단어를 배우면서 우리의 대화는 점차 커졌고 결국 우리는 친한 친구가 되었습니다. 이 경험은 우리가 다른 문화의 사람들과 연결하고 배울 수 있게 해주기 때문에 언어를 배우는 것이 얼마나 중요하고 보람이 있는지를 보여줍니다.
