Hello! My name is Kerrie Ellicock and I have been teaching English remotely for the past two years. I have experience coaching English from complete beginner level right through to intermediate and advanced levels. I studied English literature at A level and also for one year at undergrad level. Being a language learner myself I know first hand the difficulties faced when learning a language, and will always adapt my methods to suit a students needs and goals. I prefer teaching in a relaxed environment as it takes pressure off my students and helps them feel more comfortable participating in lessons. I look forward to seeing you in one of my lessons!

English originated in Britain, so British English is recognised across the globe. Other anglophone countries will use derivatives of British English using modified vocabulary, grammar and pronunciation. By learning British English, you will be understood by others from around the world. British English is so easily recognised and understood in fact, that the International Phonetic Alphabet uses British Received Pronunciation as the standardised English accent, and this is also the most widely taught accent to English students across the globe.

I recently spent 7 months travelling around Latin America. One of the highlights during this time is a volcano hike I went on in Guatemala. I travelled with a group of friends to an active volcano. We spent a day hiking up the volcano, taking regular water stops as the climb was very steep and the sun was out! It took us the entire day! In the evening we arrived at the basecamp and huddled around a fire to cook pasta and share travel stories. We then tried to get a few hours sleep as the best time to see the volcano erupt is during the night once it’s dark! We were awoken by what sounded like thunder, but it was in fact the volcano erupting just a few hundred meters away from us! We got to see the bright orange explosion of lava against the pitch black sky, and we were so close we could feel the earth beneath us shaking! At 4am we set off for the final stretch of the hike, to get even closer to the summit of the volcano. It got so warm that we were able to heat up marshmallows on a stick by just holding them close to the ground! We got to watch the sunrise as the volcano erupted consistently every 5-10 minutes! This was physically the hardest hike I have ever completed, but it was the most rewarding experience I have ever had!
저는 최근에 라틴 아메리카를 여행하는 데 7개월을 보냈습니다. 이 시기의 하이라이트 중 하나는 과테말라에서 다녀온 화산 하이킹입니다. 친구들과 함께 활화산으로 여행을 갔습니다. 등반이 매우 가파르고 태양이 나갔기 때문에 우리는 화산을 하이킹하는 데 하루를 보냈고, 하루 종일 걸렸습니다! 저녁에 베이스캠프에 도착하여 모닥불 주위에 모여 파스타를 요리하고 여행 이야기를 나누었습니다. 그런 다음 화산 폭발을 볼 수 있는 가장 좋은 시간은 어두워지면 밤이기 때문에 몇 시간 잠을 자려고 노력했습니다! 천둥 같은 소리에 잠을 깼지만 사실 우리에게서 불과 몇 백 미터 떨어진 곳에서 분출하고 있는 화산이었습니다! 하늘을 배경으로 밝은 오렌지색 용암이 폭발하는 것을 보게 되었고, 너무 가까워서 발밑의 땅이 흔들리는 것을 느낄 수 있었습니다! 오전 4시에 우리는 하이킹의 마지막 구간을 향해 출발하여 화산 정상에 더 가까이 다가갔습니다. 너무 따뜻해서 마시멜로 막대를 땅에 대고 있으면 데울 수 있었습니다! 화산이 5-10분마다 일관되게 분출하면서 우리는 일출을 보게 되었습니다! 이것은 육체적으로 저에게 완수한 것 중 가장 힘든 하이킹이었지만, 제가 가진 것 중 가장 보람 있는 경험이었습니다!
